HaterProof Comedy Fridays at the Sahara

Last Friday I was treated to Methuen’s newest Hot Ticket: Hater Proof Comedy. Young impresario Hanna Elkhoury and his crew, honed their skills producing hip hop and rap events in the Merrimack Valley and have put that experience to work bringing hot urban comedy talent to the area. In the safe, comfortable venue of Methuen’s Sahara Club what was just a couple of shows in January has now become a regular late night Friday feature.

Veteran comedian Jonathon Gates of Def Comedy Jam (pictured) brings his very funny and surprisingly audience fueled comedic style as host of the over 21 program. This last Friday’s guest comedian of the week was young Mark Genovase up from Springfield, who had a real good set and kept the audience tuned up until Jonathon took the reins again.

It will be exciting to see who Elkhoury, Gates and company bring in every week. With a lot of radio, internet and viral advertising, the show brought in patrons of every color and ethnicity from all over the Merrimack Valley as well as Boston and Lynn. If this is any indicator, I predict may soon be an SRO show, the show has a truly universal appeal.
