Methuen Freecycle

November 10, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Methuen Freecycle is part of the Freecycle ™ Network, where one person’s trash is another’s treasure! Our goal is to reduce waste by connecting people who are throwing away unwanted items with others seeking the same items (and have a little fun in the process). No item is too big or too small; but since this is a Freecycle list, ALL items must be 100% (that’s right, you got it) free.

Freecycle lies somewhere between the garage sale and the dump, and is much cooler than either. It’s an innovative concept that harnesses the power of the Internet to do what the Internet does best — eliminate the middleman and empower the individual.

Unlike traditional charitable organizations that accept people’s castoffs and sell them for low prices in unappealing shops (or end up taking them to the dump anyway), Freecycle allows for personal contact between donor and recipient — each gets exactly what they want, and nobody is considered a ‘charity case.’ (Indeed, many Freecycle members both give and receive items on a regular basis.)

It’s a perfect consumer-friendly circle: no overhead, no intermediaries, no money changing hands, no waste and no catch, and everyone’s happy. The Methuen, MA Freecycle Network serves the greater Methuen, MA area; people living in neighboring towns are also welcome. Keep in mind the transportation.

Fiona Broome’s Tenney Gatehouse podcasts

November 5, 2009 · Leave a Comment

From Paranormal Investigator Fiona Broome’s website Hollow Hill:

tenney-75While the October 10th (2009) fundraiser at Tenney Gate House was a tremendous success, some people asked questions afterward.  Here are my replies, and a new recording about Tenney Gate House.

  • Some people thought that I’d organized the event.  I didn’t.  The event was managed by the Essex County Ghost Project, and supported by the Pelham Paranormal Researchers.  I was merely one of the speakers, and — like everyone involved — I appeared at the fundraiser, free of charge.

I’m delighted that the event raised so much money for the Methuen Historical Society, to help as they continue to restore and maintain Tenney Gate House and nearby Grey Court Castle ruins.

.

.

I’ve summarized what I said, in two recordings.  You can listen to them here (as MP3s). One is a brief talk about the Tenney site. The other is a 16-minute podcast about ghost hunting without hi-tech tools.

MP3 recording: Tenney Gate House – history & ghosts

MP3 recording: Ghost hunting without high-tech equipment (That’s my regular podcast for 6 Nov 09.)
