FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 11, 2010, Team Kattar is proud to announce that Calvin Kattar has signed with the XCFL. Kattar (8-1) is one of the top lightweights in the East Coast and current NABC Champion. The red hot prospect has taken the MMA world by storm carrying a five fight winning streak as he takes on fellow up and coming fighter Taylor “King” Solomon (2-0) at the XCFL debut. This February 6th fight pits two top tier lightweights from the U.S. and Canada respectively, in what is sure to be fight of the night at the Best Western Event Center in Marlboro, MA.
Twenty-one year old Kattar, who fights out of Xtreme Fitness in Chelmsford, MA, has been in a league of his own as of late. He has finished 4 out of his last 5 opponents by TKO or Submission within the 1st round. “I’m really excited to sign on with the XCFL,” Kattar said. “The XCFL has already positioned itself to become the premiere MMA Promotion in the North East and I couldn’t be happier. Donny Mustapha [XCFL’s matchmaker and co-promoter] and Dave Diamond [XCFL’s co-promoter] are great guys that I know they are determined to make this promotion a success. ”
Kattar, who now lives in Andover, MA graduated from Methuen High School in 2006 and has trained in the art of MMA for the past 3 years. “2010’s going to be a big year for me,” says Kattar. I’m fully dedicating myself to my training and fighting. I really want to make a career out of this and won’t stop until I reach the top.” Calvin’s hard work and determination has already paid dividends in his community. He has just recently been recognized by the town of Methuen as a role model to young kids as well as an outstanding citizen receiving a proclamation by the Methuen City Council and the mayor of Methuen, Mr. William Manzi.
Calvin’s opponent, Taylor “King” Solomon, has been making quite the name for himself as well. Solomon, who hails from Ontario, Canada, boasts a professional MMA record of 2-0. Taylor has great talent and has yet to
be defeated in his young pro career, making this fight a must-win for both fighters. A win for Solomon at this event catapults him into the ranks of top 155 lb contenders in the North East.
Along with this much-anticipated fight, the XCFL will also have two title matches on the card. The main event of the evening will feature top prospect, Chris Grandmaison (9-4), taking on Dragon Lair’s Saul Almeida
(7-0) for the 145 lb Featherweight Title Belt. Grandmaison has won three of his past four fights while Almeida has yet to be defeated in his young career. Also on the card, the Co-Main Event of the evening will
pit Roger Brackett (5-1) vs. Alexandre Moreno (8-3) for the Light Heavyweight Title. Both fighters are eager for a shot at the belt and will leave it all in the cage for a chance at becoming the champ.

SALEM, N.H. — Calvin Kattar stepped out of the cage and into a sea of humanity; most screaming and some even crying.
”Kattarmania” was running wild.
The slogan made famous by Hulk Hogan in the 1980s is plastered across yellow and red shirts of Kattar’s supporters, who turned out in incredible numbers for last night’s victory.
With the win, the Methuen prospect’s improved to 8-1 and earned his first MMA championship, the NABC East Coast Lightweight title.
“Unbelievable,” Kattar said of the support. “I couldn’t hear myself think.”
Kattar downed Andrew Montanez (8-11-1) in the main event of American Steel Cage Fighting 2 before about 1,200 fans at the Icenter in Salem.
He won by unanimous decision in the longest fight of his career.

Kattar plans to finish off Montanez Friday night in ASC MMA show in N.H.
Hot mixed martial arts prospect Calvin “The Boston Finisher” Kattar (7-1-0) plans to live-up to his nickname and finish off Andrew “New York State of Mind” Montanez in Friday night’s main event on the American Steel Cagefighting (ASC) show, presented in association with the Icenter and Bellabance Beverage of Nashua (NH), at the Icenter in Salem, New Hampshire. The 21-year-old Kattar (7-1-0) takes on Montanez in a classic throw-down between contrasting style fighters – finisher and survivor – for the vacant NABC MMA East Coast lightweight title (155 lbs.) in the 5-round (5 minutes each) headliner.
Calvin was a wrestling star at Methuen High, who later took a break from college after one semester, realizing he missed the competition he had experienced from wrestling. After watching his sister’s friend, Dave George, in an MMA fight, Calvin immediately decided that he wanted to be an MMA fighter and now the Premier Martial Arts-based (Derry, NH) standout is already on the verge of capturing his first title belt.

METHUEN — Calvin Kattar thought he was done fighting. After graduating from Methuen High, Kattar did what normal 18-year-olds do, he went off to college. But the former Ranger wrestler discovered the competitive fires were difficult to extinguish.
In the winter of 2006, after his first semester at Middlesex Community College, Kattar attended an MMA (mixed martial arts) card that featured Dave George, a good friend of his sister. He was hooked.

The rush fills Calvin Kattar as soon as the chain-linked door slams and locks, leaving him alone in the cage with just an official and his opponent. “That latch sound,’’ he said. “It sounds like you’re getting locked in, and the only way you’re getting out is if you beat this kid up. I throw myself in there, and it’s like the only way I can get out is if I fight my way out.’’
He spends the weeks leading up to a fight letting everything build up – the intensity, the anger, the need to absolutely pummel the person across from him as quickly as possible. It is all training. By the time the fight is a month out, he has essentially cut food out.
“It gets me a little angry,’’ he said “A little hungry before a fight.’’ Everyone around him notices. He’s more ornery than normal. “I move into a different person,’’ he said.
He’ll step in the cage Friday night in front of what will essentially be a hometown crowd at the Icenter in Salem, N.H. to face Andrew Montanez, a Queens, N.Y-born fighter, in a five-round Mixed Martial Arts bout.

MMA: Methuen’s Dumais loses unanimous decision
Staff Report
SALEM, N.H. — Zach Burhans of New York withstood a worthy foe in Jared Dumais and a fired up pro-Dumais crowd last night at Combat Zone 29. The sellout crowd of 1,100 at Rockingham Park’s Sports Club couldn’t cheer Dumais to victory in one of the most exciting bouts on the MMA card. The cook from Derry, who grew up in Methuen, lost a unanimous decision to Burhans. It was a tough night for the local professionals. Eddie Brito of Derry tapped out at 1:58 of the first round in a loss to John Ortolani of Billerica. John Levasseur of Manchester beat James Soucie of Methuen at 1:18 of the first round.
