I am so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I grew up near his home on Woodland St., and would be
over to visit him and hang out on Saturday mornings. I remember Richard as always having a smile
for everyone, and couldn't wait to do things with friends. We lost touch when my family had moved to Beacon Street in South Lawrence, and would say hello to each other at Lawrence High School. Again, so very sorry for your loss. I have my year book in front of me with his photo in plain sight.

Yours in Christ,

Comment on Methuen to look into .75% local meals tax by Mark Dubinsky

Dear Methuen Common:

I am Mark Dubinsky, former CEO of the Methuen MA Dunkin Donuts franchises.

Urge your legislators to study this proposed new local tax carefully and then vote it down! Adding a new tax now is a very bad idea. Moreover, this proposed new tax would not help city coffers as much as expected. People do not take lightly to increased taxes and may choose to trade less in often in Methuen.

New Hampshire restaurateurs complain bitterly about the 9% tax they are forced to collect. They maintain it hurts their sales and I agree with them. I also owned a franchise in New Hampshire – my sales were negatively affected to the high tax rate in that state.

In general, restaurants are not doing well in this difficult economy. Adding a new local tax will only cause restaurants additional financial stress. The last thing the residents of Methuen should want is a potentially reduced real estate occupancy rate and a loss of local jobs, should any Methuen-based establishments fail.

Don’t add this new tax during a recession! It is a very bad idea.

By the way, what a beautiful photo of downtown Methuen. I love the color highlights in the otherwise black-and-white shot. Great creative talent!

One of those people "having trouble keeping up" on Facebook would have been me. But, thanks to Joyce who came to visit me at my office and explaining what I was doing wrong in email, I'm a BIG fan! It's just incredible the amount of information that's being provided!

What's so nice about Methuen Common is that you have so many choices in how you want to get your info. Facebook, Internet, email... you name it, you got it!

Keep up the good work!

Man, I missed today's programming. I'm bummed. I'm glad I found this on Methuen Common just in time to catch Thursday's shows!!

You know, there's so much to do in Methuen. I must be living under a rock to not have found it before just recently.

I was at Nevins Memorial Library a couple of weeks ago enjoying a musical put on by North Regional Theater Workshop (http://www.nrtwinc.com/). WHAT a good time! It was a full-blown production with a cast of a couple dozen, lighting, live band... right in Methuen! I never even knew that the library had a hall like that.

Three cheers for Methuen! Three cheers for Methuen Common for making this all so easy to get to!
