Ken Waldie Senior Sports Circuit Playoff Results…

In first round playoff action, #4 seed Embroidery Loft had little trouble with the shorthanded #5 seed Almost There. The Loft got 20 points from Mark Corcoran in the 66 – 34 win.

Third seeded ZurickDavis defeated the six seeded Irish Rovers 53 – 37. Dave Solomon scorched the nests for 18 points to lead ZD.

Second seed Dewhirst Funeral Home handled Latitude Sports Club 56 – 35 behind another 20 point game from Elliott Gray.

Eighth seed Dewey Club gave top seed Foreign Motors of Durham all they could handle, leading most of the game before fading in the final minutes. Andy Desrosiers and Billy Parent tossed in a combined 28 points for the upset minded Dewey Club.

Ken Waldie Senior Sports Circuit Full-Court Hoop Standings 2/10

In the KWSSC basketball action, Almost There knocked off league leading Dewhirst Funeral Home by a 48 – 41 count. Scott Schulz carried Almost There with a great floor game. Dewhirst dropped to second place in the standings.

The Embroidery Loft was a 65 – 43 winner over The Dewey Club. The Loft’s Mark Deroo had yet another double digit scoring game.

ZurickDavis got great offense and defense from Joe Bukowski while defeating The Irish Rovers 52 – 36.

Foreign Motors of Durham edged Latitude Sports Clubs 57 – 51 despite an immense board game from Latitude’s Mike Tremblay.

Note: Sunday’s games would have been the last of the regular season, but we are inserting the snowed out games of 12/20 on the following Sunday (2/21/2010) with the playoffs beginning on Sunday 2/28/2010).

In the KWSSC basketball action, Latitude Sports Clubs edged The Irish Rovers by a 48 – 46 count. Jack Grady, fresh off the DL, was immense for Latitude.

ZurickDavis defeated the Dewey Club 46 – 40 despite the hot shooting of Dewey Club’s Ken Hebert.

The Embroidery Loft used the scoring touch of Chris Doherty and Mark Deroo to hand Almost There a 63 – 46 drubbing.

Foreign Motors of Durham got a big inside game from Peter Sweet to run away from a short-handed Dewhirst Funeral Home.

Note: Thanks to all who helped with the Logan Debrocke charity event. Dubbed the “Stem the Tide of Cerebral Palsy Bocce Tourney”, we raised $25,000 in about three weeks. The funds will help Logan undergo a stem cell procedure in a couple weeks in Dusselfdorf, Germany. KWSSC continues to do good work in the community. We’ll keep you posted on three-year-old Logan’s progress.

In the KWSSC basketball action, The Irish Rovers defeated Dewey Club 59 – 36 behind Dennis Hanson’s strong two-way play.

Foreign Motors of Durham got by Almost there 57 – 50. Durham’s Mark Shafer had his usual double-double (points and assists).

Dewhirst Funeral Home beat Latitude Sports Clubs 40 – 35. Dewhirst’s Joe Buschini was a force on the boards and a presence in the paint.

ZurickDavis used the fine all around play of Steve Ferri to hand the Embroidery Loft a 61 – 52 loss.

In the KWSSC basketball action, Dewhirst Funeral Home held on for a 48 – 45 victory over The Embroidery Loft. Ramon Ross’ big rebound and athletic put-back in the final seconds was huge for Dewhirst.

The Irish Rovers got a hard fought win against Almost There with sharp shooting Mike Walsh leading the way.

ZurickDavis escaped with a 43 – 42 victory vs. Foreign Motors of Durham with the board work of Tom Abbott making the difference.

A rejuvenated Latitude Sports Club won its third straight game, this time dumping The Dewey Club by a 43 – 28 count. John Walsh (the younger) continues to provide the spark as Latitude’s go-to guy in clutch situations. The return of Charlie Wyrwa to the Dewey line-up bodes well for a Dewey Club late season surge.

In the KWSSC basketball action, Foreign Motors of Durham used the deadly 3-point shooting of Gary Sonnenshein to down The Dewey Club 59 – 41. Joe Tulley played a strong two-way game for Dewey Club.

Dewhirst Funeral Home squeaked by ZurickDavis 38 – 36. Doug Ahern and Elliott Gray combined for 33 of Dewhirst’s 38 points. A svelte John Solomon continues to show flashes of the old brilliance with another strong performance for ZD (double-double – points/ rebounds).

Latitude Sports Club won its second straight game after losing its first six starts. Latitude’s Armand “ice man” Hyatt sank the game-winning trey as the clock ran down in regulation for a 37 – 34 victory over Almost There.

The Embroidery Loft edged The Irish Rovers 44 – 38. Robert Smith had a big game for the Loft, scoring a dozen points while dishing out numerous assists.

In the KWSSC basketball action it was Foreign Motors of Durham 51 – 40 over The Irish Rovers with Durham’s John Sibik leading the way.
Latitude Sports Club broke into the win column with a 31 – 29 win over The Embroidery Loft. Bob Harrison carried Latitude’s offense. With Tony Mendez handling the point, Dewhirst Funeral Home kept to their winning ways with a 51 – 34 victory over The Dewey Club.
Jeff Hendrick controlled the boards and Mike Smith scored at will as Almost There knocked off ZurickDavis 57 – 44.

In the KWSSC basketball action, ZurickDavis held off a furious charge by Latitude Sports Clubs to hold on for a 45 – 43 victory. Joe Frank’s 20-point effort carried ZD while Jonathan Ells contributed as many for Latitude.

Almost There needed great 3-point shooting from Bill Letourneau to edge the Dewey Club 38 – 34. Greg George provided the Dewey Club offense.

Foreign Motors of Durham got 20 points from Mike Casimiro while downing The Embroidery Loft 52 – 33.

Dewhirst Funeral Home got double digit scoring from Steve Silva and Elliott Gray and spanked the Irish Rovers 52 – 39.

KWSSC Hoops: Foreign Motors takes Funeral Home in OT

In the KWSSC basketball action, The Embroidery Loft notched a 53 – 41 victory over Almost There. The Loft got 16 points each from Mark Corcoran and James Rogal while Almost There got a dozen points each from Tom Keefe and Jim White.

Foreign Motors of Durham knocked Dewhirst Funeral Home from the ranks of the unbeaten via a 39 – 38 overtime victory. Durham’s Dave Silverwatch sank the clutch free throws down the stretch.

ZurickDavis moved into a tie for the league lead with a 50 – 33 win over the Dewey Club. Gary Johnson was ZD’s floor leader and contributed 14 points. Dewey Club’s Dom Feroce came off the DL to toss in a dozen points.

The Irish Rovers won their second straight after a slow start, downing Latitude Sports Clubs 52 – 48. The Rovers got a sensational game from Jim Silverman who scored 20 points on a variety of 3-pointers, jumpers and highlight reel drives to the basket.
