The PMA girls were busy gnomes this past week working on their I’ll be gnome for Christmas float for the Methuen parade. They worked each day after school coming up with creative designs and costumes. Everything was hand made and they all seemed to have a lot of fine, especially Saturday morning as they assembled and taped and got to see their efforts come together. They couldnt have done it with the help of the Saurman family who provided the truck, the trailer and the leadership to pull it off.

First, they worked in the Dupre Center after school cutting, taping, gluing, stapling and designing the pieces. Then on Saturday, they assembled it all in the parking lot (the hot chocolate and muchkins provided energy boosts):

This year’s Santa Parade steps off on Saturday at 1 p.m. on Pelham Street, and it will be a tribute to students who give back to the community.

Wednesday November 11th, 2009
Parade starts at 10:00 in front of the
American Legion Post #122 200 Broadway

10:00 Parade begins at American Legion post and goes north up Broadway through the square and down Lowell st to Grove St.
10:15 Memorial service at Walnut Grove cemetery. Afterwards the parade continues past up Lowell St past the Methuen Senior Activity Center down Pelham St back through the square and continuing back to the American Legion Post.
12:00 There will be carpooling to the Elmwood cemetery for another Memorial service.

METHUEN — Santa Claus is planning a trip to Methuen. People involved with the Methuen Santa Parade are having a cookout to raise money for this year’s parade. The cookout will be Saturday at Riverside Park on Riverside Drive.

Tickets are $5 each, and that gets you a hamburger or hot dog, soda and chips. The cookout will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Methuen High School band will usher in Santa at 12:15 p.m., said Jill Stackelin, one of the people involved with the event.

“Santa is coming early to take early orders,” Stackelin said. The Santa Parade will be Nov. 21, and it’s the city’s kickoff to the holiday season.

Mayor William Manzi has announced that the grand marshals of the parade will be 2009 Methuen High School graduates Scott Yim and Madison Aleksa, who organized the 24-hour Relay For Life, which raised $182,000 for the American Cancer Society in May.

Students from local schools will be there making ornaments for the grand marshal float and Clean River Project will give boat rides. There will also be demonstrations by the Giordano Family Methuen Karate Association and Studio of Dance Arts, Stackelin said.
